With
it's limited frequency coverage (by comparison to most other sets on
the market today) this new handheld receiver from TTi Tech Co is the
nearest you can get to being an "AirBand only" scanner
that, in my opinion is worth considering. Yes there are two old
Maycom models still floating around, but the TSC-100R out performs them
both hands down !
The AirBand sensitivity is comparable with that of models costing a whole lot more and whilst lacking a numeric keypad, it is refreshingly easy is use. On the down side, it's AirBand coverage stops short at 136 instead of 137MHz, so the handful of ATC stations in the last 1MHz of the band whilst receivable, will sound "weak and distorted", as the upper VHF band is in FM mode (AirBand is AM). Another "black mark" is that the DC socket is for charging ONLY , so you can't use a mains or car power adaptor. All points considered, the TSC-100R is ideal for those looking for a basic / starter model which is simple to use, but has above market average performance and makes it a strong candidate for anyone with an aging WIN-108 or Yupiteru VT125/225 who wants to update.
