If you use an external aerial with your Virtual Radar system, we recommend you consider protecting your receiver
from static damage that can occur during a thunderstorm. Although the incidences of this happening are quite rare, the growth in Virtual Radar users  means that inevitably, someone somewhere will be unlucky.

Static electricity is built up during a thunderstorm with wind blowing over the metal structures (ie the aerial mounted on a metal pole). This static charge builds and becomes an attractor to the opposite charge of static build up in the storm clouds. By draining off the static charge continuously you reduce the probability of a strike because the potential difference is reduced.

The SP3000P uses  N type connectors (plug & socket), so can be conveniently located at the receiver end of your co-ax cable. All that is then required is to run the earth wire to the grounding rod.

An alternative option in Static Protection is to use the ELAD A12-1090 / BT-12 Mast Head pre-amp.
